Take EBT payments

You can take EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) payments using the Register or Sale apps.

You'll need to install the EBT app, to add the EBT tender type to the Register and Sale apps. You'll need to EBT payments while online. If your device is offline, you can't take EBT payments.

Take EBT payments with the Register app

There are two ways to take EBT benefit payments with the Register app:

  • By using the EBT tender type

  • By charging the amount and swiping the EBT card

Use the EBT tender type

  1. Open the Register app.

  2. Add items to the order, then select Pay.

  3. Select EBT in the Other section.

  4. Choose Cash Benefit or SNAP Food Benefit, then select

     Pay $X.XX.

  5. Swipe the EBT card. If the customer chooses SNAP Food Benefit, you can also select Manual Card Entry on your screen to manually enter the card number and expiration date. Then, select Continue.

  6. (Optional) If you’ve turned on cash back, the customer can select whether they want cash back and how much they want. If they want cash back, cash benefit will be used.

  7. On the customer-facing screen, ask the customer to enter the EBT PIN, then select Enter.

  8. Ask the customer to choose receipt options.

  9. Tap Done to finish.

Charge the amount and swipe the card

  1. Open the Register app.

  2. Add items to the order, then tap Pay.

  3. Tap Charge $X.XX on Connected Device.

  4. Swipe the EBT card.

  5. On the customer-facing screen, ask the customer to choose Cash Benefit or SNAP Food Benefit.

  6. On the customer-facing screen, ask the customer to choose whether they want cash back and how much they want.

  7. Ask the customer to enter their EBT PIN, and then select Enter.

  8. Tap Done to finish.

Take EBT payments with the Sale app

There are two ways to take EBT payments with the Sale app:

  • By selecting the EBT tender type.

  • By charging the amount and swiping the EBT card

Use the EBT tender type

  1. Open the Sale app.

  2. Enter the transaction amount, then select EBT.

  3. On the customer-facing screen, choose Cash Benefit or SNAP Food Benefit.

  4. Swipe the EBT card. If the customer chose SNAP Food Benefit, you can also select Manual Card Entry on your screen to manually enter the card number and expiration date. Then, select Continue.

  5. Ask the customer to enter their EBT PIN, and then select Enter.

  6. Tap Done to finish.

Charge the amount and swipe the card

  1. Open the Sale app.

  2. Enter the transaction amount, then select Charge.

  3. Swipe the EBT card.

  4. On the customer-facing screen, choose Cash Benefit or SNAP Food Benefit.

  5. Ask the customer to enter their EBT PIN, and then select Enter.

  6. Tap Done to finish.
